Representative Shalonn “Kiki” Curls


Representative Shalonn “Kiki” Curls represents the 41st District in Kansas City,  Missouri.  First elected to the Missouri House of Representative in November of 2006, Rep. Curls was recently elected to a second term in 2008.   As a freshman legislator, Rep. Curls was appointed to the HouseBudget Committee that oversees the Missouri State Budget.  

The health of the minority committee is important to Rep. Curls and the constituents she serves, as a result,  she is a member of the Health and Mental Health Appropriation Committee.  She also serves on Small Business Committee, Joint Committee for Capital Improvements and the Missouri HealthNet Committee.   In 2009, Representative Curls was named the Minority Caucus Vice Chairperson. 
 
Representative is actively involved in the community she serves, and she holds an annual Public Health and Safety Fair for her constituents. This fair serves to inform the community regarding resources available that will both keep them safe and provide health care options.  She serves as the 14th Ward Democratic Committee Person and is an active in Freedom Inc, the oldest African American Political Organization in Missouri.
 
Representative Curls is a real estate professional by trade.  She was educated at St. Teresa’s Academy in Kansas City and received her Bachelor’s of Arts degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia.   She has two children, Michaela and James both 17 years of age.
