Dr. Larry Proctors is currently the Associate Director of Southern University Agricultural Research & Extension Center Community of Colors (COC) Network located in Baton Rouge Louisiana.  The Communities of Color Network is grant funded by the Louisiana Campaign for Tobacco-Free living
(TFL) Organization.  TFL created the Communities of Color Networks to develop and carry out a plan for tobacco prevention and control, specifically for our African-American communities.  Dr. Proctor’s research interests investigates the impact of environmental factors such socioeconomic status and social class upon health disparities associated with cardiovascular related diseases.  He also investigates the association between health disparity and sports disparity of various ethnic groups.  Taken together, these two areas of interest examine socio-cultural influences on biological expression to address specific social justice issues facing underserved populations.  These investigations have involved health assessments that include, but are not limited to cardiovascular (Resting Heart Rate, Resting Blood Pressure), Body Composition (BMI, % body fat waist circumference and W/H ratio), lipid panel (TC, HDL, LDL, BGL and Triglycerides), musculoskeletal (Sit-ups and Push-ups) and flexibility (sit and reach).   In addition, children and athletes health profiles are assessed as well to create a systematic way of monitoring health status across the lifespan.  Abstracts and journal articles of these investigations have been presented at local, state and national conferences and published in peer-reviewed journals.
