 Over 1000 African American Men to be Tested
For Diabetes and High Blood Pressure in Atlanta
The DAP Foundation is in collaboration with Morehouse College, Abbott Laboratories, Charles R. Drew University. and the Legends of Basketball to reach out to over 25 black owned barbershops in the Atlanta metropolitan area August 16, 2008. Our goal is to screen over 1000 men for diabetes and hypertension. African American men have the highest incidence of hypertension in the world. Black men experience more mortality and morbidity from strokes, heart attacks and have the highest amputation rate from diabetes.

 The Black Barbershop Health Outreach Program will officially launch its state wide initiative on Thursday April 24th, 6 pm at Inglewood's Finest Barbershop. The Department of Human Services and its Diabetes Commission wil srceen African American men for diabetes and hypertension in over 30 barbershop in Chicago. This will be the first of a series of events that will take place throughout the State of Illinois.
